In 1889 the Musée Vaudois opened in time for the celebrations of the second In 1939, for the 250th anniversary of the Glorious Return, the museum was moved into four rooms of another building of the Tavola Valdese currently used as a guest house.
In the following years, many changes and developments have been made. In 1989, on the occasion of the 300th Anniversary of the Glorious Return, the Waldensian Studies Society and the Tavola Valdese set up the Waldensian Cultural Centre Foundation, with the aim of preserving and managing the Waldensian Museum, among several other institutions. The museum was then moved to its present location.
In 1991, for the first meeting of European Protestant museums, the ethnographic section was mounted, with daily life objects that had been displayed for the first time in 1937 during the exhibition "the Waldensian home". Many items were added in the following decades.
The museum has been characterised by a continuous evolution. Every year families of the area donate or leave as bequests additional material, enriching the relationship between the museum and the inhabitants of the valley.
