Waldensian museum

Liturgical objects

The church worship in Waldensian communities is simple. It involves the reading of the Bible along with a commentary, prayers, Confession of sins and the Communion, consisting of wine and bread and called the Lord's Supper by the Waldensians in memory of Christ's last meal with the disciples.

Some of the object used in the liturgy of the service are displayed in one of the halls relating to the time of the Reformation. There is a reconstruction of a Waldensian temple with 18 th century benches from the small village of Villasecca in the Germanasca valley.

Glass chalices and metal jars dating from the 16 th and 18 th centuries are shown along with several Reformed hymnals in French to highlight the importance of singing in Protestant Churches. Several original copies of these texts are preserved in the Waldensian library. Other objects that relate to the Lord's Supper can be viewed in the historical section of the museum, as for example a 1918 chalice of the War Prisoners Service and two sets belonging to Waldensian army chaplains during the two World Wars.
