Projects
in collaboration with Protestant institutions
For special Italian Protestant commemorations the Tavola Valdese generally establishes specific commissions. Currently, the Foundation is involved in two of these commissions:
Calvin 2009
This commission is composed of representatives of the Waldensian Divinity School in Rome, the Protestant publisher Claudiana, the Waldensian Studies Society, the Waldensian Cultural Centre Foundation and the Pascal Cultural Centre of Turin. Their main duty is to organize the celebrations for the 500 th anniversary of the reformer John Calvin's birth in 2009. The anniversary will be a good occasion to get better acquainted with Calvin. It will be a time for reflection and rediscovery because in Italy Calvin remains largely misunderstood and is often misrepresented in the popular press and academia. Even in Calvinist Protestant Churches, including the Waldensian, knowledge of this great reformer has diminished over the course of time.
The Commission will organize and promote various initiatives such as conferences, publications and exhibitions.
Calvin's anniversary will be an international event. To know more about him and his work you can visit the interactive website

150 th anniversary of the Unification of Italy
LThe second commission was formed to analyze the historical context of the unification of Italy (the time of the "Risorgimento") and Protestant influences on that historical process.
It is also looking at the history in light of current social and political dynamics (the European Union, multiculturalism, citizen rights, laity, state-church-religion relations, the possibilities of Protestant unity).
