Freedom paths: art and culture
This project started in 2004 to foster integrated sustainable development in the Pinerolo area and the surrounding valleys. This systematic territorial approach aims at recovering the area's cultural and environmental heritage and promoting tourism.
Involved in the project are four Comunità Montane ("Mountain Communities," the administrative bodies of mountain areas): Pinerolese Pedemontano , Valli Chisone e Germanasca, Val Pellice, Val Sangone; the city of Pinerolo, the Association to the Towns of the Pinerolo lowlands, Waldensian Cultural Centre Foundation, the Office of Artistic and Cultural Heritage of the Pinerolo Roman Catholic Diocese and the Coordination of Cultural Associations of the area. The project is carried out with the sponsorship and collaboration of the Regional Council of Piedmont, the Provincial Council of Turin, public superindentencies, the Compagnia di San Paolo and the CRT Foundation.
So far several brochures, tourist information bulletin boards, rotating exhibits, etc. have been produced to help people access resources more easily. A deeper understanding of the territory will allow people to better focus on how to enhance and develop cultural resources in a systematic way.
The paths of the Huguenots and the Waldensians
In this itinerary of 1200 kilometres the theme of tolerance is viewed through the events following on the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. The route goes from Drôme in southern France to Bad Karlshafen in Germany, passing through Switzerland. The path taken during the exile of the Waldensians in 1686 and their subsequent "Glorious Return" in 1689 will also be added to the project. For more information, consult the site.

Minority languages
The area of the Pellice, Germanasca and Chisone valleys, also known as the "Waldensian Valleys" is characterized by a strong multilingual tradition. The Occitan language, the local patouà, is still spoken in many communities in daily life, while the use of French is also present, for historic and cultural reasons (for many years the Waldensians were supported by Huguenot churches of the French Delfinate and Geneva), as well as due to geography (the proximity of the French border and associated seasonal emigration).
Following the approval of the national law 482/99 for the promotion of minority languages, the Comunità Montane initiated a series of projects with the help of institutions and associations already active in this area.
