The tourist office “il Barba”, promoter of Waldensian tours, welcome visitors from Italy and abroad. We organise tours of the valley, guided tours of museums, churches and historical sights. Visiting us, you will find ample information on local Waldensian culture and religion.

 

The main activities are:

Welcoming and informing chance Italian and foreign visitors who are interested in getting to know the Waldensian world, and organising guided visits to the museums, churches and historical sites of the waldensian Valleys.

Office services are available for:

ü       Schools and young groups

ü       Adults

The tourist office make use of the collaboration of tourist guides members of the Waldensian organisation which coordinates the Museums and Historical Sites. The tours are available in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish.

Supplying information on the cultural and religious reality of the waldensian world by sending documentation.

Carrying out role of secretary for the Waldensian Museums and Historical Sites.

 

 

The “barba” (uncle in the provential dialect) were Waldensian itinerant preachers during the 15th century. They visited the groups of believers secretly and met together at regular intervals to discuss matters concerning the movement dispersed all over Europe. They had an extremely dangerous role and their activities often ended tragically. The barba prepared for their itinerant mission in isolated places (the so-called “scholae”), where they studied the Scriptures.

The choice of this name underlines the will to pursue their mission, by promoting reflections on remembrance, narration, evidence during history and nowadays.
